My Big Boy!

G is growing up right before our very eyes! He will be 7 months on Monday (also would have been my dad's 82nd birthday). By 6 months he had two teeth. We haven't seen any appear since, but the doctor says the top ones look like they may be coming in soon.

He's crawling! He was pushing himself backwards for the longest time and now we have forward progress. I set him on the bedroom floor while I was getting ready and he crawled over to my husband's nightstand and opened the drawer. We better get to baby-proofing!

The other day I laid him in his crib while I was putting some things away in his room. I turned away for a minute and when I looked back he was sitting up all by himself! This was the first time I have seen him do that. He would sit if we sat him up, but he hadn't sat himself up before. So exciting!

We're still in just the beginning stages of solid foods. He got sick at the end of September (on the day I left for a business trip) and it lasted for a little more than two weeks. Because of this we fell a little behind with the cereal. He's a well fed little guy tho and loves his mama's milk! He's been getting up once a night recently. Hopefully once he starts getting more solids he will sleep a few hours longer.

It's just amazing to see how much he changes day by day. I wish my dad had been able to meet him. I know how proud he would have been. I took this picture of G with a picture of my dad. I miss him so much.

do you love being a mother?

my current most annoying question to be asked (replacing "how's married life?") i love my baby more than anything. i'm still learning how to be a mom. it's the hardest thing i've ever done. but seriously? wtf kind of question is this?

TGIF!

no 'shredding' today for me. the hubby grilled some tri-tip and we had some friends over for dinner tonight. it was a nice little break. we hoped that it would be nice weather (it is the middle of summer after all!) but i guess that's too much to ask for. it was cold & windy so we ended up eating inside. this is the second time this month that's happened to us. the first time was fourth of july. we had a bunch of people over then and it was crappy weather. we have a brand new outdoor dining set that we've hardly been able to use this summer. i hope we're able to have at least a couple nice nights outside this season.

30 Day Shred - Day 3

for some reason today seemed harder than yesterday. i continue to get very short of breath. i really need to find my inhaler!

starting weight: 149.6
weight today: 148.6

i wish that pound of weight loss actually meant something, but if I were on the Biggest Loser i would definitely be below the yellow line! oh well, it's really not so much about weight as it is about toning up. and also, i really want to lose this baby pooch.

i'll keep the baby tho! he's going to be 4 months old this Sunday and he weighed in today at 18 lb 12 oz. that's 12 oz more than the size 2 diapers that he's wearing are supposed to fit. we have about 60 diapers left to go through and i hate to waste them. i think he can go through these in a little less than a week so hopefully we'll get through that without too many blowouts!

G is such a cutie! i know i'm his mom so i'm supposed to say that, but truly he is. he loves to be on the move and carried around (a little hard on the back since he's almost 20 lb now). we can't lay him down without him flipping over on his stomach. he can't flip back on to his back yet so that frustrates him. sometimes when i'm feeding him, he'll stop eating and just look up at me and get this huge smile on his face. it's adorable! and also in the last couple of weeks he's starting to laugh. usually he giggles for me when i'm kissing him all over his face. it's amazing how this little person can change your life so much and how it can be so incredibly hard and so awesome at the same time.

30 Day Shred - Day 2

after working a 10 hr day today, i got home at 7 pm (12 hours after leaving the house this morning). i then changed, changed G, fed G, put G to bed, ate dinner, pumped and finally (at 9:15) started day 2 of the 30 day shred. i really didn't feel like it but i forced myself to do it. i got through the whole video tonight without once checking the amount of time left in it. go me! i was definitely short of breath (boo, asthma) but i tried to push myself.

starting weight: 149.6
weight today: 149.2 (first i put the scale down on the floor mat in the bathroom and it said 142.1. false! then i moved it on to the tile and got this much higher and more accurate number)

obviously the two dozen or so wanna-be oreo cookies that i ate at the office today haven't shown up on my scale yet. i'll keep my eye out for them tomorrow. i know they're here somewhere!
score - cookies: 24, willpower: 0

30 Day Shred - Day 1

whoo hoo ~ the 30 Day Shred renewed on Comcast OnDemand! even tho i did two days of this last week, i'm going to call this day 1. i weighed in at...i can't believe i'm going to type this...149.6 pounds. (already down almost 50 lbs from having a baby just a few months ago!) i'd much rather take my measurements and go off of those, but i didn't have time to do that tonight.

7 minutes in i was already hitting the play button to see how much time was left. about ten minutes after that I did something funky to my right knee. it hurt. a lot. i couldn't really do the next few exercises - the 'butt kicking' cardio move was modified to be barely running in place as it hurt too much to bend my knee. weird because it's my left knee that i've always had problems with in the past. i pushed through and did the best that i could do to finish the workout.

i will call my current level of skill on this workout "hot mess." it can only get better from here...? according to jillian, i am well on my way to being shredded. i sure do appreciate her confidence in me.

If everyone else jumped off a bridge, would you?

Heck no! But I guess I'll give this blogging thing a shot. It seems to be so popular with the young folk. & hey, I need something else to distract me from all the housework and other responsibilities that I'm not taking care of.

So here are some things I might feel like writing about -

*My beautiful baby boy G and his doings. He is almost 4 months and the super sweet love of my life. I've been back to work for about a month now. A couple weeks ago I started working three 10-hr days and staying home with G the other 2 days. We had our dream destination wedding in Maui in June 08 and he was born a little over 9 months later. & he's also one of the reasons for this next item -

*I'm planning to restart (I did two days last week) the Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred and I want to keep track of my progress. Phase 1 is on Comcast On Demand (it says it ends tomorrow, but I'm hoping that it comes back) I haven't worked out since shortly after I found out I was pregnant. I love eating and hate exercising, so that part of pregnancy was fabulous! If I could be pregnant all the time, minus the frequent bathroom breaks, sleepless nights and giving birth part - I would totally be down for it!

*Cooking skills...or my lack of them! I have about 40 cookbooks and subscribe to at least 3 cooking magazines. I love reading the recipes and looking at the pictures, but my family rarely gets a homecooked meal out of me. I can make Spaghetti, bake chicken in the oven and whip up a mean box of macaroni and cheese and that's about where it ends. I really want to try out some new recipes and maybe even do some baking. I have a professional stand mixer, 11-cup food processor...all kinds of goodies from our wedding registry that are collecting dust. Although....i might have to work a lot harder on that exercise program if I start this.

*My television obsession. I've probably lost many brain cells, but I can't get enough of trashy 'reality tv.' I can watch hours of the stuff and it drives my husband crazy!

OK, let's start with those and make up the rest as we go along. This may be one crazy ride - one possibly full of punctuation and grammatical errors - so please bear with me.
